    Envelope hand-addressed by Charles Darwin to T.W. Newton, an assistant librarian at the Geological Museum: “T.W. Newton Esq., Geological Museum, Jermyn St., London S.W.”  Darwin partnered regularly with the Geological Museum to learn about the chemical compositions of specimens he acquired during his famous
    Beagle
    voyage and within their own inventory to assist with his research and the publication of his works.

    The envelope measures 5 by 2.75 inches; postmarked in Beckenham on October 1, 1875; contains a stamp; in very good condition with soiling, paper loss to the bottom two corners, and having been attached to a larger sheet of paper; and authenticated by Newton on the top border, “Mr. Darwin.”
